Elizabeth Dunn

Associate Professor, University of British Columbia

Elizabeth Dunn is an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia, where she conducts original research on happiness. Her work has been featured in hundreds of media outlets, including The New York Times, The Economist, and The London Times. With Michael Norton, she is the co-author of Happy Money: The Science of Happier Spending (which was selected as one of the “20 Books Every Leader Should Read” by the Washington Post).

Elizabeth uses experimental methods as well as big datasets to examine how individuals and policymakers can most effectively transform wealth into well-being. For example, in a paper published in Science, she and her collaborators demonstrated that people derive greater happiness from using money to benefit others rather than themselves.
