Marjorie Stiegler

Director, Consortium for Anesthesia Patient Safety and Experiential Learning (CAPSEL)

 

 

Marjorie Stiegler is the Director of the Consortium for Anesthesia Patient Safety and Experiential Learning (CAPSEL) as well as an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Marjorie is interested in the pervasive role of diagnostic error, failed teamwork, and ineffective communication in medical care.  She is also interested in the persistent emotional effects of adverse events and errors on medical professionals.  Her work has been published in top academic journals and presented internationally.  She is currently editing Quality and Safety in Anesthesia and Perioperative Care, due out next year by Oxford University Press.

 

In addition to her active medical practice, Marjorie is a member of several national committees on patient safety, professional liability, and perioperative outcome quality measures, and is an examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology.  Previously a faculty member at the University of California, Los Angeles, she completed her specialty training at Harvard and the Massachusetts General Hospital after earning her M.D. from Emory University
