Renos Vakis

Lead Economist, Poverty Global Practice at the World Bank 

 

 

Renos Vakis is a Lead Economist at the Poverty Global Practice at the World Bank. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley and has taught economics at Johns Hopkins University (SAIS).
 

Some of his ongoing projects include randomized trials on the long term impacts of cash transfers, the use of behavioural economics to improve parenting and early childhood outcomes via text messages, and improving TB adherence using psychological support.

His research focuses on poverty reduction, equity and gender issues and he has written extensively on issues related to poverty dynamics and mobility, risk management, social protection, gender, market failures and rural development, especially in Latin America and South Asia.

 

As a member of the World Bank Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS) team, Renos is supporting the ongoing methodological research program to improve household survey measures and analysis of poverty, mental welfare and skills through experimental techniques.
