Varun Gauri

Senior Economist & Head of the "Mindsets Lab", World Bank 

 

 

Varun Gauri is Head of the World Bank’s “Mindsets Lab” and Senior Economist in the World Bank’s Development Research Group. He was Co-Director of the World Development Report 2015: Mind, Society, and Behavior. He has written dozens of books and academic papers on social policy in developing countries, and on law and development. 

 

His current research examines why public agencies comply with court rulings and why individuals support public goods. His work has been covered in a number of media outlets, including The New York Times, The Economist, The Washington Post, and The Indian Express. Varun has held academic appointments at Princeton University and in the Department of Economics at ILADES in Santiago, Chile.
